Silicon Valley Offshore Incubator, Dr. Kevin Smith, president and co-founder of the VLP Global Innovation Center and founder of The Vault incubator accelerator, and Mr. Newell Arnerich, mayor of Danville, California and senior adviser of VLP Global Innovation Center, were invited to the 4th China (Macao) Financial Award and International Innovative Investment and Cooperation Conference 2019 in Sheraton Macao hotel. The event joined hands with domestic and overseas venture capital platforms and 500 experts and scholars in the field of scientific and technological innovation of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Ma Zhida, a CPPCC member of Guangdong Province and president of the Union of Culture and Media and Communication of Macao (UCMCM) said that innovation is not only the core of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area cooperation, but a new engine to the moderate and diversified economic development in Macao, and an inexhaustible driving force for the growth and progress of young talents. With the aim of building a world tourism and recreation center and a China-Portugal business service platform, Macao will actively participate in the construction of the science and technology innovation corridor to integrate technological innovation into industrial upgrading and transformation and to promote the moderate and diversified economic development, thus building a communication and cooperation base with Chinese culture as the mainstream and coexistence of plural cultures.
Dr. Cindy Cui delivered a keynote speech at the conference on "Innovative Thinking of Silicon Valley Incubators and the Unique Model Leading Global Innovation Trends ". Dr. Cui introduced the overall situation of San Francisco Bay Area and its innovation development, as well as successful cases and specific operation mode of VLP Global Innovation Center as an innovation incubator accelerator in San Francisco. It is hoped that through the introduction of VLP Global Innovation Center, a global innovation network that absorbs resources of Fortune 500 corporation members, investment institutions, governments and scientific research institutes will be built, making it the “Gate”, landmark and international mark of Macao.
Dr. Cui, based on the theme of the conference, gave her suggestions on the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. She said that the VLP Global Innovation Center would not only promote the exchange and cooperation between Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and San Francisco Bay Area in technology development, but also further promote all-round communications between various enterprises in the two bay areas. And she hoped that with years of successful experiences of VLP Global Innovation Center, the essence of Silicon Valley innovation can be brought to the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Newell Arnerich, mayor of Danville, California and senior adviser of VLP Global Innovation Center, also gave a keynote speech on “Technological Innovation Leads the Future”. After that, Mr. Newell and Dr. Kevin Smith participated in the panel dialogue on "How the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area borrows experience from global innovation hubs to develop its high-tech industry". In terms of this issue, they gave a comprehensive analysis from the aspects of scientific and technological innovation, policy innovation and talent attraction, which won thunderous applause from the audiences.
